Installing the AVGA1 Windows 3.0 driver
---------------------------------------
There are two ways to install Windows 3.0 support for the 800x600
mode of the AVGA1 card. Method one is suggested for new installa-
tions and for novice users. Method two is for experienced users
and those who have already installed Windows 3.0 and do not wish
to go through the installation process again.

Method 1: New installation and novice users
--------------------------------------------
Start the installation process by making A: the current drive and
inserting the Microsoft Windows Disk 1 into that drive. Type SETUP
[ENTER] and follow the on screen prompts.

When presented with the list of default equipment, press the up
arrow until "VGA" is selected and press [ENTER].

You will be given a list of video cards that Windows "knows" about.
Press the down arrow until the last entry in the list is selected.
This option will read: Other (Requires disk provided by hardware
manufacturer).	You will then be prompted to insert the AVGA1
Windows 3.0 Driver Diskette and to press [ENTER] to continue. These
instructions will assume that you have installed Windows 3.0 on
drive C: and that you accepted the default subdirectory name,
"WINDOWS". If Windows 3.0 was installed on another drive, and/or
you specified another directory during installation, substitute the
appropriate drive letter and subdirectory name.

Follow the on-screen prompts through to the completion of the normal
Windows installation process. Use the following examples:

1) Go to your Windows directory, type:

    C:
    C:\> cd\windows

2) At the Windows directory type SETUP and press [ENTER], type:

    C:\WINDOWS> SETUP

3) In the System Information screen, scroll to "Display" using the
UP/DOWN arrow key and [ENTER]. Scroll down to "Other (Requires disk
provided by a hardware manufacturer)" and select ENTER.

4) You will then be prompted to "Please insert your display driver
disk provided by the hardware manufacturer ..." followed by a box with
the "A:\" prompt. Assuming that you will be using drive A, insert the
AVGA1 Drivers/Utilities Disk for Windows 3 in Drive A and type in WINDOWS
as the directory and press [ENTER]. This is how it should appear:

    A:\WINDOWS

5) The following AVGA1 display driver option will be displayed:

    AVGA1 800x600 16 colors

6) Select "AVGA1 800x600 16 colors" and [ENTER].

7) Setup will now display: "If the files on this disk can be found at
a different location, enter a new path to the files in the prompt below."
Simply type the following again for the correct AVGA1 Windows path.

    A:\WINDOWS

8) Select [ENTER] where it prompts you to "Accept the configuration
as shown above".

9) Press [ENTER] at the option "3.) Setup can make NO changes for you."

10) Windows 3.0 has now been installed using the AVGA1 driver above.
Type WIN at the DOS prompt and the Windows resolution should come up
according to what you selected.

Method 2: Existing Windows 3.0 installations
---------------------------------------------
If you haven't already done so, install Windows 3.0 using the diskettes and
instructions that came with your Windows 3.0 package. These instructions will
assume that you have installed Windows 3.0 on drive C: and that you accepted
the default subdirectory name, "WINDOWS". If Windows 3.0 was installed on
another drive and/or you specified another subdirectory during installation,
substitute the appropriate drive letter and subdirectory name where necessary
to complete the following steps.

1. Rename the file SETUP.INF which will be found in the subdirectory
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM to SETUP.OLD.

2. Copy the files AVGA800.GR2, AVGA800.DRV, and AVGAVDD.386 and SETUP.INF
from the \WINDOWS directory of the supplied AVGA1 Drivers/Utilities diskette
to the subdirectory C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM on your hard disk.

3. Start Windows in the usual manner by typing WIN [ENTER].

4. Start Windows Setup Program from the MAIN window.

5. Choose "Change System Settings..." from the Options menu, scroll through
the display options to find "AVGA1 800x600 16 Colors"; choose it and click
on the "OK" button.

6. In a moment, Setup will confirm that your changes have been made. Click
on the "Restart Windows" button to run in 800x600 mode. Windows 3.0 will now
run in this mode until you again run the Setup to choose a different option.

Using the Patched version of the MS Windows 3 Multimedia Extension
1.0 Device-Independent Bitmaps (DIB.DRV) Driver
------------------------------------------------------------------

DIB.DRV - The DIB.DRV (date-stamped 11/7/91) from Microsoft found
in the Windows directory of the AVGA2 Drivers/Utilities
disk is a patched version of the DIB.DRV which includes
a fix for the large fonts used by the Multimedia Extension
applications. Copy this file to your Windows system
directory after installing the MS Multimedia Development
	   Kit.

Using the older version of the Microsoft DIB.DRV (dated
9/19/91) with the AVGA2 Windows 3 drivers will cause the
fonts in the pull-down menus to disappear and the dialog
	   boxes to get corrupted.
